Best Yarn Choices for Granny Square Blankets

Choosing the right yarn can completely transform the appearance and feel of your blanket. Different yarn fibers create different textures, drape, and warmth levels.

Acrylic Yarn

Acrylic yarn is one of the most popular options for granny square blankets because it is affordable, soft, durable, and available in countless colors. It is also easy to wash and maintain, making it ideal for everyday use.

Cotton Yarn

Cotton yarn creates crisp stitches and gives the blanket a lighter texture. This option works especially well for warmer climates or decorative throws.

Blended Yarn

Cotton-acrylic blends offer the best of both worlds by combining softness with durability and flexibility.

When selecting yarn colors, try choosing shades that complement each other naturally. Combining light, medium, and dark tones often creates a more visually balanced blanket.
